This is the largest geographical unit both from the point of view of the total area and of the total planted hectares of vineyard. However, due to the large size of the area this is not one of the most densely planted areas. In fact, vineyards do not even cover 30% of the area. For a whole series of climatic factors, it is a very unique zone both for the exposure (almost completely facing south / west), and for varied slopes and altitude (here, vineyards are located even over 600 meters above sea level). It is a combination of the two already delimited sub-areas of Monte Crocetta and Monte Calvarina, which together with Monte Duello, represent the most recent and evident volcanic cones of the Soave System.
The soils of this area all originate from basalts of various kinds, characterized by very different depths and slopes.
The colors range from the dark brown of Monte Calvarina to the more reddish colors in the area of Monte Crocetta (Terrossa).
The basaltic rocks are usually found around 100 cm and the texture can be from clayey or even silty on the surface to more clayey in depth.
The climatic conditions change significantly depend- ing on the position of the vineyard; different exposures and altitudes allow producers to obtain very different wines from similar soils.
